Lecturer: History of Europe in a Global World (20th century)

Job description
You contribute to teaching and research in the interdisciplinary field of European Studies (BA and MA programmes) of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Teaching duties include courses in the BA and MA programmes European Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
While your teaching activities will take 80% of your time, research will be 20% of your employment time. The research time can be extended through external fundraising.

Requirements
You have a PhD degree in contemporary history or will receive this degree before August 2013. Your research focuses on the history of Europe in a global world (20th century). More specifically, your work contributes to fields such as the history of globalization, decolonization, or the transatlantic relationship.
You should be capable of triggering student learning and participation in group discussions. You are an inspiring and stimulating supervisor. As the language of instruction is English, your command of English (oral and writing) should be excellent. Previous experience in working with innovative, interdisciplinary learning approaches and problem-based teaching methods are highly welcomed.
Experience with teaching international classrooms is preferable. All members of staff are expected to share our emphasis on high quality teaching, reflected in our system of small-scale problem based learning.
Your research experience and publications demonstrate your expertise in an interdisciplinary approach. You have published internationally and in peer-reviewed journals, or are willing to develop in this direction. You have evidence of or potential for research grant acquisition. You are a team player. 


Conditions of employment
What we have to offer
We offer a 0.8 fte appointment as Lecturer for three years. The first year will be a probation period, after a positive assessment the position will be extended for the remaining 2 years.
Depending on experience and qualification, the gross monthly salary is about € 3.007,00 per month, scale level 10 (based on a full-time appointment). The gross yearly salary is about € 42.000,00 (based on a full-time appointment, including 8% holiday pay and an 8,3% end of year payment).
After a positive assessment a promotion to scale 11 is possible in the second year.
You have to be willing to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. If you do not already live in Maastricht (or its direct surroundings) you will be eligible for an allowance for removal costs. If you do not already live in Maastricht (or its direct surroundings) you might be eligible for an allowance for alternative housing. You will be provided with shared office space and a PC.
